Firefighters battle blaze at former BBC television centre in west London
About 100 firefighters are tackling a fire at a restaurant in the former BBC Television Centre headquarters in west London.
London Fire Brigade (LFB) said 15 engines were deployed to the nine-storey building in Wood Lane, White City, after the blaze broke out in the early hours of September 6. The building now houses a restaurant, flats, and television studios. Authorities confirmed that an unspecified number of homes were affected and residents had been evacuated, Caliber.Az reports via BBC.
The cause of the fire is not yet known, and there have been no reports of casualties.
Isabela Brooker, who lives on the seventh floor, described the evacuation. She said:
"We heard a knock on the door and it was the fire brigade telling us to evacuate. There was smoke all in the corridor - it was very scary. I left everything and we're now down here in our pyjamas. I have no nappies and nothing else."
She was evacuated with her eight-and-a-half-month-old son, Rafael, at 04:30 BST.
LFB said it was called shortly after 03:00 BST, with crews arriving from Hammersmith, North Kensington, Kensington, and Chiswick. Two large turntable ladders were used to tackle the fire from height.
In an 08:00 update, the brigade said the restaurant, external decking, and ducting remained alight.
The London Ambulance Service said one patient was treated at the scene and later discharged. A
