Uzbekistan loses $6.9 million to energy theft in August
Uzbekistan suffered losses of around $6.9 million in August as illegal use of energy resources soared, with authorities reporting the theft of 8.7 million cubic meters of gas and 36.8 million kilowatt-hours of electricity.
According to authorities, 8.7 million cubic meters of natural gas, valued at 27.5 billion soms ($2.2 million), and 36.8 million kilowatt-hours of electricity, worth 58.9 billion soms ($4.71 million), were stolen. The total estimated damage reached 86.57 billion soms, roughly $6.9 million, Caliber.Az reports via Uzbek media.
“During the period, 476 administrative cases were initiated for violations of energy usage regulations,” the statement said.
Measures have been taken against all offenders, and relevant documents have been forwarded to law enforcement agencies for further action.
