Trump rules out regime change in Venezuela despite drug concerns
Amid a recent incident involving Venezuelan fighter jets and drug trafficking, US President Donald Trump addressed the possibility of regime change in Venezuela. The remarks were reported by Caliber.Az, citing a live broadcast from the White House.
Speaking in the Oval Office, Trump highlighted the scale of the drug problem linked to Venezuela. “Venezuela supplies huge amounts of drugs to America,” he said, calling the country a “very bad actor” and noting that the drug seizures by US authorities represent “hundreds of thousands of dead people in the United States.”
He added, “Millions and millions of dollars, billions of dollars of drugs are pouring out of Venezuela and other countries. Look, China, what they're doing with fentanyl is a terrible thing. It comes through Canada, and it comes through Mexico, but a lot of it's coming through Venezuela.”
Despite the strong rhetoric, Trump clarified that the United States is not seeking to overthrow Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro. “We are talking about the fact that you had an election which was a very strange election to put it mild, I'm being very nice when I say that,” he said.
The President stressed that Washington’s main concern remains the massive scale of drug trafficking, which, according to him, generates “billions of dollars” and poses a threat to US security.
