Moldova not included in Trump’s international peace initiative, says president
Moldovan President Maia Sandu has confirmed that she has not received an invitation from US President Donald Trump to join the Board of Peace, an initiative aimed at facilitating the peaceful resolution of global conflicts.
Sandu underscored her appreciation for genuine efforts to promote peace, while emphasizing the importance of adherence to international law and respect for national sovereignty, NewTV reports.
"No, I have not received an invitation. What do I think about this Board of Peace: of course, I value any sincere efforts aimed at establishing peace, but we must also take into account international law and respect for territorial integrity. This is something I very much hope will be considered," she stated.
The proposal, presented by Trump earlier the same day at the World Economic Forum in Davos, was initially intended to oversee his peace plan for Gaza and has since been expanded to address other global conflicts.
US officials say more than 20 countries have so far accepted invitations to join the board, with US special envoy Steve Witkoff estimating that “north of 20, maybe 25 world leaders” had agreed to participate. Invitations were sent to more than 50 leaders, according to the White House.
Despite that support, none of Washington’s major European allies has committed. France, Norway and Sweden have declined or expressed strong reservations, while Germany, the United Kingdom and Italy have not taken a position.
