Severe weather disrupts electricity imports from Uzbekistan to Afghanistan
Afghanistan’s state-run power utility has reported significant disruptions to electricity imports from Uzbekistan due to severe weather conditions.
Da Afghanistan Breshna Sherkat (DABS) said in a statement that “one circuit of the 220-kilovolt transmission line carrying imported power from Uzbekistan developed a technical problem between Pul-e-Khumri and Kabul amid heavy rainfall, storms and snowfall, leading to power outages,” Caliber.Az reports, citing foreign media.
The utility added that the disruption has caused electricity shortages and repeated outages in Parwan, Kapisa, Panjshir, Kabul, Nangarhar, Laghman, Maidan Wardak, Ghazni, Logar, Paktia, and Khost provinces, as well as parts of Baghlan.
Breshna noted that “snowfall remains heavy in the Salang area and our technical teams are waiting for weather conditions to improve so they can identify the exact location of the fault and resolve the issue as soon as possible.”
In a separate update, DABS reported progress on the Turkmenistan power transmission line, stating that “our technical teams have successfully fixed a technical problem on the Turkmenistan power transmission line in Balkh and Faryab provinces, restoring electricity supply to Balkh, Jawzjan, Sar-e-Pul and Faryab to normal levels.”
Authorities and energy teams continue to monitor the situation and work to stabilize electricity supplies across the country as adverse weather conditions persist.
