Ukraine: Shelling of residential buildings in Odesa leaves dead and injured PHOTO
Residential areas in the southern Ukrainian city of Odesa came under attack overnight, resulting in civilian casualties and significant destruction, according to Ukraine’s State Emergency Service.
Emergency officials reported that a strike hit a three-storey residential building, destroying several apartments and sparking a fire. Six people were injured in the incident. Two additional two-storey residential buildings were also damaged. Rescue teams pulled one person from the rubble and evacuated around 20 residents, including two children. Seven people were reported injured in those locations.
In a separate incident, an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) struck another two-storey home. Authorities confirmed that two people were killed and one person was injured. Sixteen residents were evacuated from the building.
Emergency Service psychologists worked throughout the night, providing assistance to more than 50 residents, including three children, who were experiencing severe stress following the attacks.
In total, officials say at least two people were killed and 14 others injured as a result of the strikes. More than 140 emergency responders have been deployed across the affected areas, and efforts to deal with the aftermath are ongoing. Authorities noted that casualty figures and damage assessments are still being clarified.
