Ukraine signs deal with Germany for 600 Patriot air defence missiles, Zelenskyy says

Ukraine has signed an agreement with Germany to purchase 600 missiles for Patriot air defence systems, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced, highlighting the deal as a significant step in strengthening the country’s air defence capabilities.

Speaking about the agreement, Zelenskyy said Germany had begun producing the missiles after receiving the necessary manufacturing licences from the United States, Caliber.Az reports via Ukrainian media. 

“The Americans transferred the licences to the Germans some time ago. The Germans have now started production, and we have already signed a contract with them for a substantial sum, for 600 missiles,” Zelenskyy said.

The Ukrainian president described the agreement as a positive development for the country’s defence sector. However, he cautioned that the delivery timeline remains uncertain due to the lengthy production and procurement process.

“It is a good contract,” Zelenskyy said, adding that it is not yet clear when the missiles will arrive in Ukraine.
