Ukraine, Sweden to cooperate in defence, nuclear energy

05 July 2022 01:54

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Swedish Prime Minister Magdalena Andersson have signed a joint statement following their meeting in Kyiv, identifying key issues of bilateral relations, including cooperation in the defence sector and nuclear energy.

The document was signed by the leaders of the two countries for the first time, UNIAN quotes Zelenskyy as saying on his Telegram channel.

"Today, in a joint statement with Swedish Prime Minister Magdalena Andersson, we fixed key issues for both our states. These are defence cooperation, cooperation in the fields of nuclear energy and energy efficiency, and financial support for Ukraine. This is the first such document in the history of bilateral relations between Ukraine and Sweden," he said.

Kyiv and Stockholm will expand cooperation in accordance with intergovernmental agreements, according to the statement, the text of which was published on the Ukrainian president's website. The leaders welcomed cooperation in Ukraine's security sector and the development of its mine clearance capabilities, as well as partnership in the supply of nuclear fuel to Kyiv.
