Ukraine to establish space forces by end of 2025

Kyiv has announced plans to create space forces as part of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) before the end of this year, according to Ukrainian media citing the government’s official programme of activities.

The initiative is part of a broader restructuring of Ukraine’s defence forces, which must be updated by December 31, 2025, to accommodate the new branch. Officials say that the legal and organisational framework necessary for the functioning of the space forces has already been established.

The programme sets a clear benchmark for progress: by next year, the space component of the Ukrainian army should reach 60% operational readiness, which will be considered a key measure of success in forming the new forces.
