Ukraine uncovers hidden wealth among military medical officials
Ukrainian law enforcement authorities have uncovered unexplained assets linked to employees of military medical commissions following a series of searches conducted across the country.
According to Ukraine’s National Police, investigators carried out 58 searches in 16 regions as part of a nationwide operation targeting alleged illicit enrichment and false asset declarations by officials serving on medical commissions.
“The National Police is carrying out comprehensive investigations into cases of illicit enrichment and false asset declarations by officials of medical commissions,” the agency said in a statement published on its Telegram channel.
The searches were conducted jointly by the National Police and the military prosecutor’s office at the residences of individuals under investigation.
Police said the operation uncovered unexplained assets worth between 2 million and 11 million hryvnias (approximately $47,000 to $247,000) belonging to the suspects and their relatives.
According to investigators, the assets included undeclared property and valuables registered to close family members, such as vehicles, apartments, houses, land plots, and cash holdings. In other cases, officials declared assets whose value significantly exceeded their reported income.
Among the items seized during the operation was a 2025 Mercedes-Benz GLE 300D with an estimated market value of more than $100,000.
The latest findings add to a series of corruption scandals involving Ukraine’s military medical commissions. Earlier reports alleged that the head of one such commission received $300,000 in bribes in exchange for issuing fraudulent medical certificates declaring individuals unfit for military service.
