Ukrainian defence firm DEMZ to establish ammunition plant in Lithuania

Ukrainian defence industry company DEMZ will invest in a new ammunition plant in Lithuania, the Lithuanian Ministry of the Economy and Innovation said on August 13.

The ministry said it would sign an investment agreement with DEMZ for the project, LRT reports.

“DEMZ will invest in a new ammunition plant in Lithuania, which will become a regional production and innovation centre for the company, where new products meeting NATO standards will be developed and tested,” the ministry said.

Lithuania’s Ministry of Defence will also sign a memorandum of understanding with DEMZ, according to the statement.

Elijus Čivilis, head of Invest Lithuania, previously told BNS that several Ukrainian defence industry investors had received approval from a government commission responsible for screening strategic transactions to operate in Lithuania.

Lithuania is seeking to expand cooperation with Ukraine in the defence industry as Russia’s war against Ukraine continues.

Defence Minister Robertas Kaunas has said Lithuania aims to produce drones for Ukraine through joint investments under an agreement signed in May to strengthen defence industry cooperation with Ukraine.
