Ukrainian driver crashes into Montenegro PM’s motorcade

19 February 2026 11:51

A Ukrainian national was involved in a traffic accident in Montenegro after crashing into a vehicle from the motorcade of Prime Minister Milojko Spajić on the Mateševo–Kolašin highway near the settlement of Skrbuša.

As reported by RTCG, citing local authorities, the incident occurred when a 21-year-old Ukrainian citizen driving a BMW with foreign registration plates was travelling from Podgorica toward Kolašin. While driving along a section of road marked with a continuous solid line, the vehicle crossed into the opposite lane for reasons that remain unclear and struck the front of an official Mercedes car that was part of the prime minister’s convoy.

Three police officers were inside the service vehicle at the time of the collision. All sustained injuries and were transported for medical assistance. Authorities separately clarified that the protected official was travelling in a different escort vehicle and was not harmed.

Traffic accident specialists and investigative teams conducted on-site examinations under the supervision of a state prosecutor. Traffic along the affected stretch of highway was temporarily suspended while investigative procedures were carried out.

Police noted that preliminary findings indicate the crash occurred after the BMW driver crossed the solid road marking, although the final cause of the accident will be established following the completion of the investigation.
