Ukrainian FM says UK sanctions weaken Russia’s military capabilities

Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha welcomed new British sanctions targeting individuals linked to Russian drone production and exploitation of foreign nationals in Moscow’s war against Ukraine, saying the measures would help weaken Russia’s military capabilities.

In a statement posted on X, Sybiha thanked the United Kingdom for what he described as “robust sanctions” and called for closer international coordination to tighten pressure on Russia.

“Grateful to the United Kingdom for imposing robust sanctions on individuals involved in the production of Russian drones and the exploitation of foreign nationals in the war against Ukraine. This decisive action contributes to weakening Russia’s military capabilities,” Sybiha said.

The Ukrainian foreign minister added that Kyiv was seeking broader cooperation with allies to strengthen enforcement of sanctions measures.

“We encourage further coordinated efforts with international partners to expand and effectively enforce these measures,” he said.

Sybiha also stressed Ukraine’s commitment to pursuing accountability for those responsible for Russia’s invasion.

“We also remain committed to continued cooperation in ensuring accountability for those responsible,” he said.

The minister additionally thanked British Home Secretary Yvette Cooper for her support, saying the partnership between Ukraine and the UK remained vital for European security.

“I thank my friend and colleague Yvette Cooper for her steadfast support and commitment to enhancing our resilience, with the strong Ukraine-UK partnership continuing to be key to a lasting peace in Europe,” Sybiha said.
