Ukrainian forces hit key Russian gas facility, targeting military production
On the night of December 15, Ukrainian Defence Forces carried out a successful strike on the Astrakhan Gas Processing Plant in the Russian Federation, the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reported.
“To reduce the enemy’s capacity to produce explosives, on the night of December 15, the Ukrainian Defense Forces successfully hit a strategic enemy facility – the Astrakhan gas processing plant,” the statement said, Caliber.Az reports, citing Ukrainian media.
The Astrakhan Gas Processing Plant is considered one of the key enterprises in Russia’s oil and gas industry. It produces up to 3.5 million tons of sulfur annually, a critical component used in the production of explosives for Russia’s military-industrial complex.
The General Staff confirmed that explosions were recorded on the plant’s premises, and a large fire broke out. The full extent of the damage is still being assessed.
“The Defense Forces will continue taking measures to undermine the offensive potential of the Russian invaders and force the Russian Federation to stop its armed aggression against Ukraine,” the statement emphasized.
