Ukrainian MFA: Russia violates Convention on the Caspian Sea Status
Ukraine calls on the states of the Caspian region to make every effort to force the Russian Federation to comply with international legal obligations, primarily the Convention on the Legal Status of the Caspian Sea.
This was reflected in the statement of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine regarding Russia's violation of the Convention "On the Legal Status of the Caspian Sea", according to APA.
It is emphasized that Russia's launch of missiles from the Caspian region at civilian infrastructure facilities in Ukrainian cities is a gross violation of the provisions of the Convention.
"Paragraph 2 of Article 3 of the Convention provides for "the use of the Caspian Sea for peaceful purposes, its transformation into a zone of peace, good-neighborliness and cooperation, the peaceful settlement of all issues related to the Caspian Sea."
"Ukraine calls on member states of the Convention to call on the Russian Federation to stop using the waters of the Caspian Sea to continue armed aggression against Ukraine, as well as to prevent further militarization of this region and its involvement in any armed conflicts," the statement reads.
