Ukrainian parliament recognizes "Ichkeria", sets to label Iran as terrorism sponsor
Ukrainian parliament has recognized the “Chechen Republic of Ichkeria” as temporarily occupied by the Russian Federation and condemned the commission of the genocide of the Chechen people.
A total of 287 people's deputies voted for the adoption of the resolution "On the statement of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine on the recognition of the Chechen Republic of Ichkeria as temporarily occupied by the Russian Federation and condemnation of the genocide of the Chechen people," UNIAN reports.
Meanwhile, the Russian president's spokesman Dmitry Peskov considered this statement as "legal oddity". A bill featuring a non-existent entity "speaks to the quality of legislative work in the Verkhovnaya Rada," Peskov said.
A the same time, Ukrainian MP Oleksiy Honcharenko said that he had sent to the parliament a bill on the termination of diplomatic relations with Iran and the recognition of the republic as a "sponsor of terrorism".
In addition, he suggested the parliament to appeal to the United Nations, the European Parliament, the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, NATO and other international organizations, as well as to the governments of third countries, with a call to recognize Iran as a state sponsor of terrorism and impose new sanctions against it.
