Ukrainian security service arrests FSB agent using mother to guide Russian fire PHOTO

Ukrainian authorities have detained a Russian agent accused of directing fire on Ukrainian positions in Donetsk Oblast, in what the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) described as part of ongoing counterintelligence operations in the region.

Thus, the 41-year-old man, who had been evading mobilisation and waiting for full Russian occupation of the area, contacted Russian intelligence via an FSB chatbot, Caliber.Az reports per SBU. His task was to correct Russian artillery fire in frontline areas.

The suspect allegedly enlisted his mother without her knowledge of his ties to Russia. He reportedly instructed her to observe Ukrainian military locations and equipment as she moved around the city receiving volunteer aid.

He would then question her about troop positions and movements of military convoys and relay the information to his FSB handlers.

The SBU said these reports were being used by Russian forces for targeted strikes against Ukrainian positions.

The operation was halted after the man’s arrest, and a smartphone containing evidence of his activity for Russian intelligence was seized.

He has been charged with treason under martial law. He is being held in custody without bail and faces life imprisonment, along with asset confiscation if convicted.
