Kyiv says security service behind drone attack on Russian tankers Video
Ukraine’s Security Service (SBU) was behind the destruction of two Russian tankers belonging to Moscow’s so-called “shadow fleet”, Ukrainian media reported on November 29.
Sources within the agency told UNIAN that the strike was a joint operation involving the SBU’s 13th Main Directorate of military counterintelligence and the Ukrainian Navy.
According to the report, the vessels were hit by upgraded Sea Baby maritime drones capable of travelling long distances and fitted with reinforced explosive charges.
The tankers were sailing empty towards the port of Novorossiysk for loading at the time of the attack. Both vessels sustained severe damage after being struck by the drones and have been effectively taken out of service, the sources said.
Ukrainian officials claim the incident will deal a significant blow to Russia’s ability to transport crude oil via its covert tanker network.
