Ukrainian serviceman killed in knife attack during mobilisation checks
A 55-year-old Ukrainian serviceman died after being stabbed during mobilisation-related activities in the western city of Lviv, Lviv Regional Military Administration Head Maksym Kozytskyi said.
According to preliminary information, the serviceman was part of a team conducting public outreach on mobilisation and checking military registration documents when he was attacked by a 25-year-old Lviv resident, Caliber.Az reports.
A police officer accompanying the team used his service firearm after the attacker posed a threat to the serviceman’s life. The officer fired two shots, injuring the attacker in the leg.
The injured man was detained and taken to hospital, according to Kozytskyi.
The serviceman, who belonged to Ukraine’s Territorial Defence Forces, died in an ambulance despite resuscitation efforts.
Police are investigating the circumstances of the incident.
