UN chief calls for restraint by all parties in Bangladesh
UN Secretary-General António Guterres is closely following the developments in Bangladesh and calls on all parties to remain calm and exercise maximum restraint.
"The Secretary-General regrets the loss of life at the weekend protests in Bangladesh. He continues to closely follow developments in the country, including the announcement by the army commander of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's resignation and plans to form an interim government," the UN said in message, Caliber.Az reports, citing foreign media.
It called for calm and restraint on all sides and emphasised the importance of a peaceful, orderly and democratic transition of power.
Guterres also called for full respect for human rights.
"He continues to emphasise the need for a full, independent, impartial and transparent investigation into all acts of violence," the statement said.
