UN chief says attacks on civilian infrastructure “unacceptable” amid US-Iran escalation
UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres said on July 17 that attacks on civilian infrastructure were “unacceptable” amid continuing military escalation between the United States and Iran.
“The secretary-general remains deeply concerned by the continuing military escalation between Iran and the United States of America,” his spokesman Farhan Haq told reporters, CBS News reports.
“He's particularly concerned about attacks on civilian infrastructure in Iran and across the region. Such attacks are unacceptable,” Haq added.
Iran has accused the United States of targeting bridges and transport hubs. Washington has not confirmed the allegations that it struck civilian sites, although U.S. President Donald Trump has threatened to target them.
