UN considers arrest of Maduro's plane internal US-Venezuelan affair
Spokesperson for the UN Secretary General Stephane Dujarric has said that the US seizure of Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro's plane is an internal matter between the two countries.
"We are aware of what happened, at the moment we can say that this is a bilateral issue between the US and Venezuela," Dujarric said at a briefing, Caliber.Az reports, citing Russian media.
On September 2, the US arrested Maduro's plane in the Dominican Republic and transported it to the state of Florida. The Venezuelan Foreign Ministry called this step piracy.
On July 28, Venezuela held presidential elections. As the National Electoral Council of the Republic announced after processing almost 97% of the protocols, 51.95% of citizens voted for Maduro, and 43.18% for his main rival Edmundo Gonzalez.
After analyzing the election materials, the Supreme Court confirmed the accuracy of these results. Opposition leader Maria Corina Machado said on election day that Gonzalez's team was not going to accept his defeat in the election.
