UN faces severe funding shortfall as member state contributions lag
30 June 2026 10:57
The United Nations is facing a severe funding shortfall as fewer than two-thirds of its member states have paid their regular budget contributions, UN spokesperson Stéphane Dujarric said.
Speaking at a press conference, Dujarric described the organisation's financial situation as increasingly strained, Caliber.Az reports via Russian media.
"These are times of meagre cash flow," Dujarric said.
According to Dujarric, the UN has received regular budget contributions from only 117 of its 193 member states, leaving the organisation with a significant funding gap.
He also thanked Algeria for its recent contribution of $2.7 million, highlighting it as one of the latest payments received by the organisation.
