UN: Nearly 600 children killed in Gaza in one month as Israeli offensive escalates

21 April 2025 17:54

Nearly 600 children have been killed and over 1,600 injured in Gaza since Israel resumed its offensive last month, the UN agency for Palestinian refugees (UNRWA) said on April 21, citing UNICEF.

UNRWA warned that the humanitarian situation in Gaza has deteriorated significantly, describing it as likely the worst it has been since the outbreak of hostilities in October 2023, Caliber.Az reports per foreign media.

The Israeli military resumed its offensive on March 18, following a brief ceasefire and prisoner exchange agreement in January. Since then, at least 1,864 people have been killed and nearly 4,900 injured, according to the agency.

Overall, more than 51,200 Palestinians, the majority of them women and children, have been killed in Gaza since Israel launched its military campaign in October.

Last November, the International Criminal Court issued arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former Defence Minister Yoav Gallant, accusing them of war crimes and crimes against humanity in Gaza.

Israel is also currently facing a genocide case at the International Court of Justice over its actions in the enclave.
