UN partners with Azerbaijan on demographic issues PHOTO

A collaborative effort between Azerbaijan and the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) on demographic issues has been confirmed during a meeting at the Ministry of Health.

The gathering, attended by Azerbaijan’s Health Minister Teymur Musayev and UNFPA Country Director for Azerbaijan Mariam Khan, highlighted the fruitful cooperation between the two entities across various sectors, particularly in healthcare, AZERTAC reports.

Minister Musayev commended Azerbaijan's productive engagement with several UN specialized agencies, including UNFPA, emphasizing the effective collaboration established in healthcare initiatives. Notably, he underscored the significance of Azerbaijan hosting the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties (COP) to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change scheduled for November this year. Against the backdrop of declaring 2024 as the "Year of Solidarity for a Green World" in Azerbaijan, the minister highlighted the country's dedication to addressing the adverse effects of climate change through national and global initiatives.

Looking towards the future, Minister Musayev expressed confidence in the continued advancement of joint endeavors between Azerbaijan and UNFPA.

Mariam Khan, the UNFPA Country Director for Azerbaijan, commended the existing partnership between the two parties, reaffirming UNFPA's commitment to long-term collaboration with the Azerbaijani government on initiatives pertaining to demography, gender equality promotion, and women's health.

Furthermore, she extended congratulations to Azerbaijan on its selection as the venue for COP29 and emphasized UNFPA's dedication to supporting preparations for the event, particularly focusing on climate resilience efforts.

The meeting facilitated an exchange of views on various issues of mutual interest.
