UN refugee agency warns of funding shortfall

Around 8.3 million refugees could lose access to assistance due to a lack of funding, the UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) has warned.

The agency noted that “the amount of funding available” fell from $5.2 billion in 2024 to $3.9 billion in 2025, Caliber.Az reports, citing Russian media.

By the end of July 2026, UNHCR had received “only 32% of the required $8.5 billion”, despite the number of people in need of protection “remaining at historically high levels”.
