UN SC committee adopts resolution condemning neo-Nasizm
The Third Committee of the UN General Assembly adopted on November 3 a resolution introduced by Russia to combat neo-Nazism, TASS reports.
A total of 112 countries voted for the document entitled “Combating the glorification of Nazism, neo-Nazism and other practices that contribute to the escalation of modern forms of racism, racial discrimination, xenophobia and related intolerance”, 50 were against, while 14 abstained. Austria, the UK, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, and the US were among those voting against the document. Brazil, Egypt, Israel, China, UAE, and others supported it.
The resolution was prepared by Russia in collaboration with several countries, including Algeria, Azerbaijan, China, Congo, Cuba, North Korea, Madagascar, Mali, Venezuela, Vietnam, Zimbabwe, Nicaragua, Pakistan, Sudan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and other states. The document consists of 74 points. It, in particular, contains provisions on the strong condemnation of incidents related to the glorification and propaganda of Nazism, welcoming efforts to preserve historical truth, recommendations for taking measures to prevent the denial of crimes against humanity and revising the history and results of the Second World War.
In addition, the document “unequivocally condemns” any denial or attempt to deny the Holocaust, as well as all manifestations of religious intolerance, incitement, persecution or violence against individuals or communities based on ethnic origin or religious belief.
