Mediators present Hamas with new Gaza ceasefire proposal
Indirect negotiations aimed at halting hostilities in the Gaza Strip have entered a new phase, as mediators delivered another proposal to the Palestinian movement Hamas in an effort to revive talks, Al Hadath reported.
According to the channel’s sources, the initiative was conveyed by Egyptian and Qatari representatives in the presence of leaders of several Palestinian factions. Those factions reportedly demanded that Hamas respond to the proposal “within hours.” A meeting of mediators, expected to include Qatari Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, is scheduled for Monday in El-Alamein, Egypt.
The latest development follows a report by Asharq Al-Awsat on Sunday, citing sources who said that Hamas was prepared to accept without amendments a ceasefire proposal. That plan included a 60-day truce, redeployment of Israeli forces, and the release of 10 hostages held in the enclave.
According to the report, Hamas has dropped its earlier conditions regarding a full troop withdrawal and certain demands linked to the release of Palestinian prisoners. By doing so, the group has effectively placed the next move in Israel’s hands.
Sources emphasised that Hamas’s shift appears driven by the urgency of preventing Israel’s plans for the occupation of Gaza and the potential displacement of its residents.
