UN Security Council calls to appoint a special representative for Libya
The UN Security Council extended until July 31, 2022, the mandate of the United Nations Support Mission to Libya (UNSMIL) and called on Secretary General António Guterres to promptly appoint his Special Representative for Libya.
According to RIA Novosti, the relevant resolution was adopted on Friday.
The mission's mandate ends April 30, 2022. The resolution was adopted unanimously.
"The Security Council decides to extend until 31 July 2022 the mandate of UNSMIL as an integrated special political mission," the resolution says.
At the same time, the UNSC decides that UNSMIL should be led by a Special Representative of the Secretary General in Tripoli, who will be supported by two deputies. The UN Security Council "calls on the Secretary General to appoint a special representative without delay," the text of the document says.
