UN weighs future presence in Lebanon after UNIFIL mandate ends
23 April 2026 17:15
The United Nations says it is working on options to maintain a presence in Lebanon following the scheduled end of the mandate of its peacekeeping mission, UNIFIL, later this year.
Speaking at a press briefing in Geneva, Jean-Pierre Lacroix said discussions were underway regarding post-mission arrangements, The Times of Israel reports.
“In terms of the post-UNIFIL, we’re currently in the process of working on these options,” Lacroix said, adding that authorities in Beirut “very clear that they would want to keep a UN presence.”
