United Airlines flight returns to Washington after engine failure
14 December 2025 11:53
A United Airlines plane flying from the U.S. capital to Tokyo returned to Dulles International Airport shortly after takeoff due to an engine failure, Bloomberg reports.
There were 275 passengers and 15 crew members on board, and no injuries were reported.
According to the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), the aircraft landed safely on Saturday, December 13, at around 1:20 p.m. local time. The agency has launched an investigation into the incident.
U.S. Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy stated that a fragment of the engine casing detached, causing a brush fire on the ground. The airline clarified that the crew turned the plane around due to the loss of power in one of the engines.
