United States delivers batch of Abrams tanks to Poland
The United States has supplied Poland with several shipments of M1A1 Abrams tanks, according to reports from the First Warsaw Armored Brigade, as cited by Gazeta.Ru.
The arrival of the American tanks, transported by rail, was humorously noted by the Polish military, who quipped that the equipment was delivered just in time for Easter. A message from the brigade playfully posed the question, "What will the Easter bunny bring you?"
Earlier announcements from Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Defense of Poland, Mariusz Blaszczak, confirmed the impending arrival of the first batch of American Abrams tanks in June. However, Blaszczak clarified that these tanks would not be the most modern variants but older generation models previously used by the U.S. military. The shipment to Poland comes as part of an agreement wherein Warsaw exchanged T-72 tanks with Ukraine.
Blaszczak further elaborated that Poland anticipates receiving the modernized Abrams tanks by the end of 2024. This aligns with previous statements made by the minister, who disclosed plans for Poland to acquire 58 American Abrams tanks by 2023.
