US administration to allocate hundreds of millions to support Gaza

20 August 2026 11:08

President Donald Trump's administration has notified Congress that it plans to provide more than $206 million to support a proposed Gaza peacekeeping force, marking the first significant US funding for Trump's stalled plan to rebuild the war-ravaged enclave.

In two notifications dated July 30 and reviewed by Reuters, the State Department told Congress it would allocate $200 million for equipment, infrastructure, vehicles and operational costs for the International Stabilisation Force (ISF). An additional $6 million would be used to repurpose US armoured vehicles in support of the force.

The funding represents the first concrete US spending on the proposed peacekeeping force and underscores the administration's determination to move forward with Trump's Gaza roadmap, despite both Israel and Hamas raising objections to conditions required to advance the plan.

“The ISF will lead security operations, support comprehensive demilitarization, and enable the safe delivery of humanitarian aid and reconstruction material to Gaza,” one of the notifications said, adding that the final composition of the force was still being negotiated.

The administration has not disclosed how much funding will ultimately be required to maintain and operate the force.

Earlier, it was reported that the US-backed “Board of Peace”, which President Donald Trump announced on January 16, had awarded its first contract to build a military base for Moroccan troops.

The project envisages the construction of a basic military outpost capable of accommodating 150 personnel.
