US aerospace company Maxar restores Ukraine’s access to satellite images Photo

12 March 2025 13:53

American aerospace giant Maxar Technologies has reinstated Ukraine’s access to its satellite imagery, following a brief suspension last week.

The move comes after US and Ukrainian delegations met in Jeddah on March 11, Caliber.Az reports via Russian media.

Following the talks, Washington announced that military aid to Kyiv would resume. In return, Ukraine expressed its willingness to implement a 30-day ceasefire.

Note that, US suspended satellite imagery services to Ukraine on March 7, further restricting its support for Kyiv under the Trump administration. This follows earlier decisions to halt arms shipments and intelligence sharing.

The National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency confirmed the suspension, citing compliance with administration directives. The affected service, Global Enhanced GEOINT Delivery, supplies commercial satellite imagery used by US allies and partners. Ukrainian forces have heavily relied on these images for targeting, battlefield assessments, and logistics planning.

The move has been met with frustration among Ukrainian troops, with some labelling it an act of betrayal rather than a political decision. Officers have noted that while the suspension is not catastrophic, it will hinder battlefield efficiency.

Maxar, a key US satellite imagery provider, acknowledged that its services for Ukraine had been impacted but reaffirmed its commitment to other clients.
