11 July 2026 17:10
A U.S. citizen working for a humanitarian organisation in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) has tested positive for the Bundibugyo strain of the Ebola virus, the U.S. Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) said on July 10.
The CDC said it is working with the patient's employer, other U.S. federal agencies and partners in the DRC to help prevent further transmission of the virus and identify people who may have been exposed through high-risk contact, Reuters reports.
According to government data released late on July 10, the number of confirmed Ebola cases in the DRC has risen to 1,830, including 648 deaths.
