US approves permanent military presence in Poland
The White House has approved a permanent presence of US troops in Poland, according to a statement cited by RMF24.
The announcement was made by Marcin Przydacz, head of the International Policy Bureau in the office of the Polish President, following his meeting with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio.
“The previous rotational formula, involving periodic troop deployments, should give way to the permanent stationing of American contingents,” the report said.
Przydacz emphasised that the decision reflects not only US military strategy in Europe but also what he described as strong personal relations between Polish President Karol Nawrocki and US President Donald Trump.
The change in the nature of US troop presence is described as a “strong signal” to both eastern and western neighbours of Poland.
On May 21, Trump announced that the United States would deploy an additional 5,000 troops to Poland, citing close relations with Nawrocki.
