US approves sale of HAWK air defence systems, Bradley IFVs to Ukraine
The United States has approved the sale of two major military aid packages to Ukraine, featuring HAWK Phase III air defence systems and Bradley Infantry Fighting Vehicles (IFVs), along with equipment and services for their repair and maintenance.
According to The Guardian, the decision was confirmed in official statements released late Wednesday. The U.S. Department of State authorised a potential foreign military sale to Ukraine valued at approximately $172 million. The package includes not only the air defence systems themselves but also a comprehensive support structure aimed at ensuring their sustained operation.
The Ukrainian government had formally requested a range of items and services essential for the upkeep of the HAWK missile system, which is designed to protect against aerial threats. These include:
-
5-ton military trucks
-
Spare parts for the HAWK system
-
System repairs and overhauls
-
Tool kits and testing equipment
-
Auxiliary equipment and storage containers
-
Technical manuals and documentation
-
Training programmes
-
Logistics support
-
Technical and field assistance from both U.S. government personnel and contractors
In addition, the package includes spare parts and repair services for HAWK missiles themselves, as well as items related to broader logistical and programme support.
“Implementation of this proposed sale will not require the assignment of any additional U.S. Government or contractor representatives to Ukraine,” the statement said.
