US arrests Belarusian citizen for circumventing anti-Russian sanctions
US authorities have arrested 46-year-old Belarusian citizen Sergei Karpushkin for circumventing sanctions against businessman Sergei Kurchenko and two of his companies.
This was reported by the press service of the US Department of Justice.
According to the Justice Department, Karpushkin was involved in a scheme to purchase steelmaking materials for $150 million, which violates US sanctions.
It is specified that the United States included Kurchenko in the sanctions list in 2015 in connection with the events in Ukraine. Karpushkin participated in a criminal scheme for three years, being an accomplice of John Unsalan, a Florida resident.
Karpushkin is charged with criminal conspiracy to circumvent US sanctions. He faces up to 20 years in prison.
