US, Bahrain leaders discuss regional peace, Abraham Accords in inaugural call
US President Donald Trump and King Hamad Bin Isa Al Khalifa of Bahrain have discussed regional peace and security during a phone conversation.
During the call, King Hamad extended his congratulations to President Trump on his recent inauguration, Caliber.Az reports, citing the White House press service.
The two leaders reaffirmed their commitment to enhancing the strategic partnership between their nations. The discussion focused on advancing cooperation across various sectors and initiating a new phase in bilateral relations.
King Hamad emphasised Bahrain's dedication to fostering joint efforts that serve mutual interests, praising the United States' leading role in the global economy and its significant contribution to international economic growth. He expressed hopes for continued prosperity for the US, underlining Bahrain's proactive stance in strengthening ties.
President Trump, in turn, thanked King Hamad for his congratulations and reiterated the strength of the US-Bahrain relationship. He expressed eagerness to further develop these ties throughout his presidency, highlighting the importance of collaboration in addressing shared challenges.
They highlighted the importance of building upon the Abraham Accords, a series of normalisation agreements between Israel and several Arab nations, which have reshaped diplomatic relations in the Middle East. They discussed enhancing cooperation to tackle regional and global challenges, emphasising their commitment to supporting international peace and security.
On January 20, Republican Donald Trump was sworn in for a presidential term extending until 2028, marking the end of Joe Biden's Democratic administration. At 78, Trump becomes the oldest individual to assume the presidency, following his initial term from 2017 to 2021.
