Lithuanian defence minister heads to Ukraine to boost military cooperation
Lithuanian Minister of National Defence Robertas Kaunas departed for Ukraine, aiming to deepen bilateral cooperation in defence and accelerate joint initiatives.
Speaking to journalists at the government ahead of his trip, Kaunas said the visit would focus on expediting the acquisition of advanced technologies, launching joint projects, and strengthening Lithuania’s capabilities in airspace surveillance and defence, LRT reports.
“I am leaving for Ukraine today,” the minister said.
“We are going to Ukraine with the goal of speeding up both the acquisition of technologies and the launch of joint projects, as well as enhancing our capabilities to monitor and defend our airspace,” he added.
The visit had been announced earlier in March, with officials indicating that discussions would center on air defence and border security—areas of increasing importance amid ongoing regional tensions.
Kaunas last traveled to Ukraine in February, reflecting Lithuania’s continued engagement and support for Kyiv.
