US boxer becomes world champion in fourth weight class
US boxer Terence "Bud" Crawford has claimed the WBA junior middleweight title with a unanimous decision victory over Uzbek athlete Israil Madrimov at BMO Stadium in Los Angeles.
Crawford began the fight with a measured approach, spending much of the first round assessing Madrimov's movements and maneuvering to avoid his attempts to close the distance, Caliber.Az reports citing the foreign media.
This victory adds another impressive achievement to Crawford's already outstanding boxing resume. The 154-pound weight class is now the fourth division in which Crawford has claimed a world title, following a dominant reign as a welterweight.
Crawford first entered the welterweight division in 2018, securing the WBO title with a ninth-round TKO of Jeff Horn. He successfully defended that title six times before unifying all welterweight belts with another ninth-round TKO, this time against Errol Spence Jr. Although Spence Jr. had a rematch clause, Crawford grew frustrated with the negotiations, and the clause eventually expired, opening the door for this new opportunity for the Nebraskan.
