Azerbaijan’s Paralympian takes top honours at Cairo World Boccia Challenger

Azerbaijani Paralympian Sona Aghayeva clinched a gold medal at the Cairo 2026 World Boccia Challenger in Egypt, securing a significant victory on the international circuit.

Competing in the individual BC2 classification, Aghayeva delivered a dominant performance throughout the event, recording decisive victories against Portugal's Mónica Costa and New Zealand's Chloe Sturt en route to the top of the podium.

The Cairo tournament serves as an important fixture on the international Paralympic calendar, carrying qualification ranking points crucial for securing berths at the Los Angeles 2028 Summer Paralympic Games.
