US CENTCOM develops world’s first multinational attack drone unit

US Central Command has announced it is developing the world’s first multinational drone unit.

In a statement, the command said its Joint Rapid Acquisition Task Force, which equips US forces with advanced technology, has established the first single-use attack drone squadron for the US Army in the Middle East, and launched the first airborne attack drone from a US Navy warship.

The statement added that the historic task force was formed in June, when an unmanned surface vessel helped rescue the crew of a helicopter that crashed in territorial waters. In July, US Central Command used a single-use unmanned surface vessel for the first time in combat.

The task force team is now working to develop the world’s first multinational attack drone unit, building on remarkable achievements over the past 52 weeks.
