US Colonel: Destruction of Gaza Strip to drag Iran, Türkiye into conflict

Israel's retaliatory actions in the Gaza Strip could lead to a larger war that would involve Iran and Türkiye, former Pentagon adviser Colonel Douglas Macgregor warned on his page on the social network X.

“It may be that anger and disgust across the Muslim World with the destruction of Gaza and its people eventually provokes a larger war that could involve Iran, even Türkiye,” he said, Caliber.Az reports.

This scenario, according to McGregor, is possible if Hezbollah remains inactive. If Israel comes under attack from Southern Lebanon, its ground forces, according to the colonel, “will stretch the IDF ground force to the limit”.

At the same time, he added that if the number of participants in the confrontation expands, Egypt will not be able to remain on the sidelines.

“In short, the world could change dramatically,” the former Pentagon adviser concluded.

Israel was subjected to an unprecedented rocket attack from the Gaza Strip on October 7. After massive rocket attacks, Hamas fighters penetrated into the border areas in southern Israel.

The military wing of the Palestinian Hamas movement announced Operation Al-Aqsa Flood against Israel. At the same time, the Israel Defense Forces announced the start of Operation Iron Swords in the Gaza Strip.

On October 9, the Lebanese Hezbollah movement announced shelling of Israeli army targets after the death of three of its fighters. The Lebanese Army confirmed Israeli shelling of border areas in southern Lebanon.
