US confirms new military unit will arrive in Estonia in November

The United States has informed Estonia that the rotational presence of US forces in the country will continue, with a new military unit scheduled to arrive in November.

Defence Minister Martin Herem said his country highly values the US presence and its contribution to ensuring security in the Baltic region, Caliber.Az reports.

“This is a cornerstone of NATO’s deterrence and defence posture, confirming the Allies’ readiness and unity to defend Alliance territory,” Herem noted.

US representatives made clear that the decision was separate from the ongoing review of the US military force posture. The incoming unit will be comparable in size and capability to the US unit that left Estonia in the spring.

The 6th Squadron of the US 9th Cavalry Regiment (6-9 CAV) completed its rotation in Estonia this spring. The arrival of the next US unit was subsequently put on hold amid the ongoing review of the US military force structure.

A reduced US military presence has continued at the Reedo military base in southern Estonia during the interim period.
