US Congressman vows to file impeachment articles against Trump in 30 days
US Congressman Al Green has declared that he will bring articles of impeachment against US President Donald Trump within the next 30 days, addressing protesters at an anti-Trump rally in Washington, D.C.
Green asserted that Trump “does not deserve” to remain in office. Speaking at the “Hands Off!” rally, Green expressed his determination to challenge the president despite the significant power Trump holds, describing him as a formidable figure, Caliber.Az reports via foreign media.
“We need a Senate that will convict him this time, and I want you to know, from my heart, from my heart, I understand that he is a Goliath. He is a Goliath. He has control of the generals in the military. He has control of the Justice Department. He has control of the Republican Party, but my friends, my friends, for every Goliath, there is a David,” Green told the crowd. The Texas Democrat continued, vowing to take action against the president: “And I want you to know, Mr. President, this David is going to bring articles of impeachment against you within the next 30 days. Within the next 30 days, I’m bringing articles of impeachment. I’m coming for you. Mr. President, this David is coming for you.”
Green had previously signaled his intent to file impeachment articles two months ago and reiterated his belief that Trump should not hold the presidency. “You can’t be entrusted with liberty and justice for all. You can’t be entrusted with government of the people by the people for the people. I’m coming for you. I’m your David. God bless you,” he added. In response, White House Assistant Press Secretary Liz Huston issued a statement to The Hill, defending Trump’s position.
Huston emphasized that the president remains committed to protecting key social safety net programs, stating, “Trump’s position is clear: he will always protect Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid for eligible beneficiaries.” Huston then criticized the Democrats' stance, saying, “Meanwhile, the Democrats’ stance is giving Social Security, Medicaid, and Medicare benefits to illegal aliens, which will bankrupt these programs and crush American seniors.” The push for impeachment comes after President Trump made controversial comments about the U.S. potentially taking control of the Gaza Strip.
On February 5, Green vowed on the House floor to file impeachment articles, framing the situation as a threat to justice in both Gaza and the US “Injustice in Gaza is a threat to justice in the United States of America,” Green had said. He reiterated his stance on Saturday, calling for a solution to the Palestinian issue: “Gaza is not going to become a resort. There must be a home for the Palestinian people.”
Green has previously led impeachment attempts against Trump during his first term, though they failed to gain significant momentum. Additionally, on February 2, the House censured Green for disrupting Trump’s joint address to Congress on February 4. The House passed the rebuke with a 224-198-2 vote, making Green the 28th House member to receive such a censure.
