US deploys second aircraft carrier to Middle East
The U.S. Carrier Strike Group, led by the nuclear-powered aircraft carrier USS Carl Vinson, has departed its base on Guam in the western Pacific and is now heading toward the Middle East.
The USS Carl Vinson strike group is expected to arrive in the region within two weeks to reinforce the American military presence, where the USS Harry Truman Carrier Strike Group is already deployed, Caliber.Az reports via foreign media.
U.S. Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth ordered the deployment of a second aircraft carrier amid ongoing U.S. airstrikes against Houthi targets in Yemen.
Since March 15, carrier-based aircraft from USS Harry Truman have been conducting large-scale strikes against the Houthis following an order from U.S. President Donald Trump. Both aircraft carriers are expected to remain in the region for at least one to two months.
