US embassy employee found dead in Myanmar
An employee of the US Embassy in Myanmar was found dead in the country’s largest city, Yangon, three people familiar with the matter said.
The diplomat’s body was discovered at the Sakura Residence & Hotel in Yangon two weeks ago, according to the Associated Press (AP).
The US Department of State confirmed the embassy employee’s death to AP but declined to provide further comment.
A Thai national has been detained on suspicion of involvement in the diplomat’s death. Local law enforcement authorities are treating the case as a possible homicide and are continuing their investigation.
Thailand’s Foreign Ministry confirmed that consular assistance has been extended to the detained woman and that her family has been informed, but declined to provide further details.
