US envoy cancels Politico event appearance ahead of Trump’s UN speech

U.S. Ambassador to the European Union Andrew Puzder cancelled his scheduled appearance at a Politico event because it was due to take place almost simultaneously with U.S. President Donald Trump’s address to the UN General Assembly.

According to the department, Trump’s speech was scheduled for the morning session, which was due to begin at 5 p.m. Baku time. Puzder had been scheduled to speak at 1:30 p.m. UTC

Politico noted that the cancellation came amid the White House’s ongoing dispute with the publication, as well as with CNN and MS NOW.

On September 18, Trump announced that he was barring journalists from CNN, MS NOW and Politico from the White House, accusing the outlets of spreading what he called false information about his administration. He said the list of media organisations barred from the presidential residence could be expanded, while also leaving open the possibility of reversing the decision.

The following day, journalists from the three outlets were denied access to the White House, with the organisations reporting that their press passes had been confiscated. The outlets said they would defend their First Amendment rights.

The three organisations filed a lawsuit against Trump and members of his administration on September 21, challenging the White House access restrictions.
