US envoy says Greenland’s future hinges on Trump’s decisions

US Special Envoy to Greenland Jeff Landry said that he believes the territory’s future and prosperity are closely tied to the decisions of US President Donald Trump, following a recent visit to Greenland.

According to Danish broadcaster DR, citing an interview, Landry made the remarks while summarising the outcome of his trip and his engagements with local residents. He emphasised the importance of strengthening ties between Greenland and the United States.

“Friends are never too many, right? Therefore, the mission of building friendly relations never ends. I met and spoke with a very wide range of people, which, in my opinion, was the most productive part. And it seems there is a common theme, namely that they want more ties with the US,” he said.

Landry added that he intends to brief Trump on his findings, arguing that Greenland has increasingly become a subject of strategic discussion since Trump first raised the issue in 2016.

“I will tell him that Greenland’s prosperity depends on him – on the decisions he makes. That is the kind of influence he now has, having recognised that it is strategically important – and it truly is – for the US and the Western Hemisphere,” he said.
